DIY Zero Waste Holiday Gift Recipe

It’s the holiday season! Which means it’s the season of giving. It’s also the season of abundance, which usually means, plenty of left over food and quite often, waste.

After learning the impact of the coffee industry, we did some further research in ways to reuse coffee grounds! You’ll be amazed at the number of ways you can repurpose them! We’ve done the work for you though, and tested out this fantastic coffee-infused body scrub recipe.

The same recipe can be re-created using leftover orange skin (of which you’d peel the rind) and cinnamon. Coffee, orange, and cinnamon are antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and are powerhouse ingredients to help soften and soothe dry skin .

So before you throw away those leftovers, why not try throwing them together, giving them new life, and a beautiful gift to a loved one.

Makes: Each scrub recipe makes 1 medium jar

Time: 10 mins to prep, 10 mins to make

Ingredients:

Coffee Scrub

  • 1 cup used, dried coffee grounds (organic if possible)
  • 1 cup organic raw sugar or salt
  • 1/2 cup organic coconut oil
  • 1 medium glass jar

Orange and Cinnamon Scrub

  • 1 zest of an orange
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup organic raw sugar
  • 1/2 cup organic coconut oil
  • 1 medium glass jar

To make:

  1. Melt coconut oil and allow to cool (without becoming solid again!)
  2. In one bowl, mix together the salt, coconut oil and coffee grounds together
  3. In another bow, mix together the sugar, coconut oil, orange zest and cinnamon.
  4. Place the scrubs in separate, airtight jars and keep in the fridge until ready to gift
